Introducing Dr Milli

Expert Advice

Hello! My name is Dr Milli. I work in the northwest as an NHS medical doctor (GP) and lifestyle medicine physician. I also work at a local medical school as a senior lecturer, educating the doctors of the future. I am a passionate health writer and columnist, medical content creator, podcast host, author and Founder of Dr Milli consulting.

On a Mission for Hormone Intelligence

I am on a mission to educate a million women to become hormone intelligent. It is so important for me to advocate and educate people on what are hormones, what we need to know about them, how this influences health and illness and how we can balance them and boost them through lifestyle and if needed, medical treatment as appropriate.

My Story and Why...

I qualified as a doctor 15 years ago and in that time have been through many life events (becoming a junior doctor with multiple stressful night shifts, the planning of a wedding, becoming a mother to two children, buying a house. Add in a divorce, a puppy with sleepless nights and then just before COVID being a patient on the NHS with hormonal imbalances. It’s no wonder I suffered with fatigue, stress, brain fog and burnout.

A Hot Hormonal Mess!

Yes, I know very vividly the struggles of what it is like to battle hormonal imbalances and be a hot hormonal mess. I can relate. I have been there, done that and got the badge. I battled with weight gain throughout the years and yo yo dieted and piled the weight back on and more. I remember looking at a holiday picture of myself in Spain and didn’t recognise the woman staring back at me. At that point, I knew I needed to do something about my health.

My Research

I researched hormones, read the studies, the research, the papers, and then I found my calling. I obtained further educational qualifications in lifestyle medicine. I LOVED doing it. It felt like this was a part of the puzzle that was missing. I felt excited about work, being able to use lifestyle medicine to help patients. Many people have not heard of lifestyle medicine – it is using 6 pillars (nutrition, exercise, sleep, avoiding toxic substances, mental health and positive psychology) to prevent, treat and even reverse chronic health problem; from obesity to type 2 diabetes to other hormonal conditions. It is not just about moving more and eating less; its more nuanced and individual than that. It’s understanding how nature and nurture interact and how gut health and all pillars of our health interact together and how our hormones crosstalk.

But I recognise, at this time, I can say no as I need to prioritise my health and my goals and passion – which is to educate, empower women on the science of hormones and hormonal health. Making this information accessible and understandable using the evidence base and my experience to provide a unique health care experience for people.
